Local government reorganisation will change how councils are set up, replacing our current county and district councils.

Wherever you live or work you will be dealing with one single council in your local area. What we don’t know yet is whether there will be one council covering the whole of Oxfordshire or if the solution will be two or even three councils for the county.

There are three proposals on the table for consideration. The government will make the final decision but wants to hear what everyone thinks about them.

With a brand new single unitary council

• We’d save over £63 million every year, with total net savings of £163 million by year five.

• It means freed up resources to reinvest in the frontline services that residents rely on, including social care, roads, SEND support, housing and community services.

• It makes sense for all our communities. Having one set of information, one front door and one set of insight means we can strengthen local democracy by ensuring voices are heard and decisions are made closer to the people they affect.

• A simpler structure means greater financial resilience at a time when public services need it most.
